Installation

Precast SuDS components would require mechanical lifting and handling at site, usually using existing excavators and machinery available on site. MPA Precast members have introduced a pipe lifter device to improve site safety, reduce operatives’ involvement and speed up installation. The pipe lifter is designed to work with most excavators used in SuDS and attenuation tank construction sites in the UK. In the vast majority of cases, there will not be a need to bring in specialist lifting equipment.

The MPA Precast  website offers sufficient advice on other means and methods for products’ lifting, handling and installation.

When concrete pipes are used, there is a strong case for making significant savings in the installation process. Visit our Structural and Materials Cost Calculators to find out how savings on installation can be achieved.

Risk of manual lifting

It should be noted that not all lighter weight attenuation and stormwater management products are suitable for manual handling. Some components available in the UK weigh significantly over 10Kg, making them hazardous in terms of manual lifting at lower shin level. Most ranges of plastic pipes >DN300 are also unsuitable for safe manual handling by operative on site. For more information, check the MPA Precast Information sheet on Manual Handling.
