SuDS come in different forms and for different services. Some types of SuDS include plants or require stormwater permanent or temporary storage at service level (hence the term ‘blue green infrastructure’), while other SuDS are manufactured/ engineered (also referred to as proprietary or ‘grey’). There is a wide range of precast concrete SuDS products that can work independently, or in conjunction with natural SuDS systems, to enable collection, treatment, re-use, attenuation/ storage or infiltration of stormwater runoff.
Several precast concrete products can be used to help with the collection of stormwater runoff where a natural SuDS system cannot be used.
Retention of stormwater runoff is mainly provided through underground tank systems or retention ponds.
Filtration and removal of FOG and sediment is one of the main pillars of a SuDS system. A number of natural and proprietary SuDS can be used to help treat surface water runoff.
Where natural infiltration methods are not feasible, the most appropriate, durable and reliable stormwater infiltration method is precast soakaways. However, there are other precast SuDS components that can also help with infiltration
A number of Precast SuDS storage and treatment components can also be employed for rainwater harvesting, recycling and re-use.
